What our experts think
This delightful and tactile wooden toy is perfect for children who want to role play real world concepts. Our testers commented on how their parents used the machines and this really enhanced their levels of enjoyment. It is great for encouraging children to play imaginatively – role play provides the opportunity to act out and make sense of real world situations, which aids children’s social and emotional development as well as promoting understanding of their place in the world around them. This is a great addition to any role-play shop and all of our testers played with it in this way; the children enjoyed asking other family members/peers to buy things and then liked working out the total, which is a fun way of promoting counting and numeracy skills in a practical setting.
The only addition children would have liked to have seen was a beep ‘like the one in the shop’. Although they soon began to make their own sounds as they immersed themselves in their play. In addition, the children also used a wide range of language and sentence structures – there was a lot of mimicking what they heard in shops, which benefits vocabulary development as well as storytelling skills.
