What our experts think
The Ball Chase Octopus is brilliant for encouraging crawling and walking, as children loved launching themselves after the balls! There was lots of squealing and laughing, helping develop children’s communication skills.
Picking up the balls and placing them on the octopus’ legs helps children practice fine motor control, strengthening the small muscles in their hands and building hand-eye coordination. Launching the balls teaches children about cause and effect.
EYFS goals supported
Physical development – “When sitting, can lean forward to pick up small toys.”
It would be even better if...
The balls may launch too far for some children to reach, so parents may need to move them a little closer (still encouraging movement, but avoiding frustration!). Parents may also need to demonstrate how to launch the balls.
