What is it
This farmhouse sorter features a bright red wooden roof with cut-out shapes for posting the different wooden pieces through, and the windows of the house, kennel roof, steps etc are also cut-out shapes. One side of the roof is fixed to the house, while the other side lifts off so that the shapes can be retrieved. The removable section of the roof is secured onto the house with two wooden pegs.
There are six solid wood geometric forms, each a different colour: red triangle, dark blue square, light blue semi-circle, yellow circle etc. Each of the shapes cut into the sides of the house have the corresponding colour painted around the hole.
All Goula products are designed and manufactured to the highest standards, using wood from plantations for sustainable use and non-toxic paints and lacquers. Wood is a biodegradable material in harmony with nature. Its texture, shape, volume and warmth make it suitable material for children of a young age.

What our experts think
This is a well made sorter that was eye-catching and sturdy. Our testers liked the farmhouse theme and there was lots of scope for discussion when talking about the different shapes, colours and even the pictures on the building; some of our older testers also counted the objects as they put them into the sorter, which builds on numeracy and counting skills.
As well as putting the shapes into the sorter (which required good hand-eye coordination and colour recognition), the children also enjoyed getting them out again – the toy provided lots of opportunities for repetitive play, which reinforces shape sorting logic and fine motor control. Some of our testers couldn’t initially get the shapes into the sorter, but, with practise, were successful – this shows trial and error learning which is crucial at this age for overcoming challenges and progressing development!
