What our experts think
The Everywhere playMAT is a brilliant multi-purpose play mat, made of firm foam to cushion falls. It’s great for babies to spend tummy time on but also encourages children starting to crawl; we saw them moving around to find the different animals and use the City scene as a surface to drive cars around on. The Zoo side helps children become familiar with animals, and parents can ask children to name or point to the different animals to facilitate learning. Both sides can be used in imaginative small world play.
EYFS goals supported
Personal, social and emotional development – “Plays cooperatively with a familiar adult.”
Communication and language – “Selects familiar objects by name and will go and find objects when asked, or identify objects from a group.”; “Uses sounds in play.”
Understanding the world – “Closely observes what animals, people and vehicles do.”
It would be even better if...
The patterns on the mat are repeated which can be a bit boring for children, as they enjoy being able to search for different things. For older children, it might be good to have the names of the animals labelled so children can learn them.
