What our experts think
The children liked letting their imaginations run wild as they created their own scenarios with this fun set. The resemblance of the dragon and figure to the characters in the film provided a springboard for our testers’ imaginative play and they enjoyed adding other characters. We like how the set can be added to other Playmobil sets and other small world characters. Role playing and acting out scenarios helps children make sense of different situations they may have encountered, which benefits their personal, social and emotional development.
There was lots of storytelling as the children played, and this kind of imaginative play promotes creativity. The toy had a good range of movement, particularly the dragon’s mouth that moved, and this really added to the storytelling. We found this to be a good toy for encouraging cooperative play, with the children playing alongside their peers, which, at this age, is a great way of building on social and communication skills needed for team based tasks. Our only criticism was that the wings kept falling off of the dragon.
