Retailer Of The Month: December 2014

Congratulations to Clair Letton & Jesse Marshall, owners of Wigwam Toys in Brighton, for having their lovely shop awarded Retailer of the Month for December.

Wigwam Toys is an independent, family run toy shop selling quality, design led & distinctive toys that appeal to girls, boys & their parents.

Clair and Jesse may have only owned Wigwam Toys for a short time but they have already been recognised by winning Venus, Best New Business 2014 and becoming a finalist in Venus, women in business, awards.

Wigwam toys have also been chosen as one of the top 100 small businesses in the UK for the second year running by AMEX, in aid of Small Business Saturday UK.

Retailer of the Month Toy Shop

Clair and Jesse believe that childhood is short. “We want our children to stay kids for as long as possible and the products we stock reflect that. Sometimes the best toys are the ones that amused us as children, or even our parents, they don’t have to be expensive – a kite, a paper plane or a set of stickers. We are both passionate about discovering new products and supporting other small businesses, and look forward to many more years messing about with toys!”

Wigwam Toys are Retailer of the MonthThey pride themselves in sourcing beautiful, design led toys and gifts that don’t cost the earth, and fire up little imaginations, or encourage kids to be kids, to explore, co-operate, create, go outside and just play! where ever possible Wigwam Toys also support local makers by stocking their products, be it a local mum who makes hairbands, or a small games manufacturer.

As they were new to business in the area, they established their traders association a few months ago, where local businesses could share information and help one another.

Because they are based in a residential area, Wigwam’s success depends on the community, most of their customers shop with them on a weekly basis, so their stock needs to remain fresh. “We will always do what we can to support local organisations, schools, nurseries and youth groups – without them, we don’t survive.”

They believe this is a better way of doing business. “Wigwam needs to make money to pay our bills and feed our children, however, beyond that, being part of our community is hugely important”

Amanda Gummer of Fundamentally Children states: “We’re delighted to support exciting new independent shops that choose innovative and exciting toys that are great for children’s development. We are looking forward to watching the Wigwam team go from strength to strength and hope to see them at Toy Fair”

They are currently developing their webshop and hope to offer their selection of low tech, kidcentered, cool stuff to a wider audience, so watch this space!…..
