How to Play

Milk Experiment is a fun and messy play idea!

– Put some milk in a bowl.

– Add food colouring and the colours will swirl into each other.

Then to extend the experiment, add a drop of washing up liquid and children can observe the colours move around the bowl. Keep adding small drops to the milk and see what happens.

Children will ask why the colours are mixing – it is because the fat particles in the milk move away from the soap, making the food colouring move with the fat particles.

Children could draw the different swirls and get creative with it. This activity will encourage scientific enquiry and develop observational skills, enhancing a child’s knowledge.
