How to Play

Fill a tray with flour and encourage your child to trace shapes, letters, numbers or even more complex images either with their fingers, a stick or pencil.

  • For children who are 2+ : encourage the child initially to use their finger to trace in the flour. This will allow them to explore finger movements and develop finger tracing skills.
  • For older children, 4+: for those who have started school (or are about to), this is a great way for children to start understanding the movements they will be making with their arms when using a pen. Provide children with a stick or a pencil to teach them pincer grip and this will help prepare them for writing and develop fine motor control.

This activity can get messy, but the children will love it.

This is also a great activity to play with sand instead of flour whether in a sand pit or on the beach.
