What is it
The Tiny Hands Arctic Birthday app that teaches children about colour, animals and shape.
Children have to help the penguins organise a birthday party for their Polar Bear friend. There are lots of different tasks to complete as the penguin prepare the party. Activities encourage children to use sorting and matching skills, logic and classification; they have to classify birthday candles by shape and pattern, match balloons by colour and use their logic in the hide and seek game. There are 12 different activities to choose from.
At the end of each activity children are rewarded with an animation.

What our experts think
Arctic Birthday is a delightful app from Tiny Hands that allows children to explore basic concepts in a fun and engaging way. The app was easy for young children to navigate.
We really like the context of the app, and children thoroughly enjoyed getting the party ready for the polar bear.
There was a good range of activities and these encouraged children to use matching, sorting and classification skills; in some of the games children also had to think logically in order to complete the task.
We liked the way in which the app reinforced the concepts of colour and shape.
It would be even better if...
We would have liked the colour and shape names to have been spoken when children clicked on them – this would have reinforced their names and provided another learning opportunity.
Also some of our young testers kept clicking on the back button by mistake – it would be better if this had to be held for longer so it couldn’t be hit accidentally!
