What is it
Read Write Phonics teaches children to read and write. It introduces children to the 44 phonic sounds of the English language and shows how to blend them together to form words, and how to write the letters of the alphabet by tracing dotted letter forms.
There is lots for children to see and do in this app. Children can tap and swipe through the App listening to the correct sounds and blending the sounds into words and there are fun encouragement and reward stars are given in the Write section.

What our experts think
This app approaches reading in a clear and simple way; there are no ‘gimmicks’ to distract the children from the main aim of the app – learning. The way in which children are encouraged to recognise what the sounds look like is very good; there were clear links between the actual sounds and how they were written on the page – this is an important skill which children need to learn if they are to become readers. Children will enjoy, and benefit from, practising their letter formation, listening to the sounds and blending them together as they progress through the app.
It would be even better if...
We felt it would be better if there were a parents’ area explaining the different activities.
