What our experts think
This is a nice app for children to explore at their own pace, which is ideal for fostering curiosity. The ocean was particularly popular and our testers were fascinated by the sunken treasure chest full of gems! We love that children can help clear the litter from the beach; caring for the environment is a lovely value to instil in children.
Exploring and interacting with the beach and ocean scenes is great for imaginative play, supporting creativity. It also encourages children to talk about the seaside, developing their understanding of a familiar scene and promoting language skills.
It would be even better if...
We had quite a lot of trouble with the links to the other apps at the top – although they do have a parent lock, children seemed to think they were part of the game and got frustrated when they just kept getting a pop-up.
A lot of the pieces to interact with were also quite fiddly for this age group, which some found annoying, and this meant that they had difficulty with features like building a sandcastle. Some also didn’t realise that they could go into the ocean by scrolling to the far left and tapping the down arrow; parents may want to point this out as it was a popular area to explore.
