What is it
Magic Carpet land contains more than 60 interactive Arabian characters and 6 different mini games; this means that there are over 100 possible interactions. Children can zoom, swipe and touch to discover a world filled with surprises. Each character you click on does something different; and when you spot the exclamation mark you click on it to reveal the mini game. The animations are hand drawn and engaging to children.
The children are guided through a series of text boxes – these let the children know how to navigate the screen. As long as the child can read to follow the instructions, the age is simple to play.
There are two different settings:
– Enter the city and experience the hustle and bustle of the bazaar.
– Discover the mysterious den of thieves in the desert.

What our experts think
Magic Carpet Land is a beautifully illustrated app which takes children on a magic carpet ride to a very different part of the world. Children enjoyed the numerous interactions and loved the element of humour. There was lots for children to see and do as they explored the screen; our little testers had lots of giggles when they clicked on certain items – the monkey throwing bananas and the sinking boat to name just two! This element of free play was really good.
The mini games were a great addition, but children had to be able to read in order to know what was being asked of them – this meant that they had to process the information and follow the instructions. The mini games had a good level of challenge (finding the pots for the genies was difficult, but you had to find them in the corey order as signified by their shadow) and children had to persevere if they were to be successful.
It would be even better if...
Our testers felt that the time taken to load was too long and it wasn’t clear that the game was loading – there needed to be some text or a bar showing loading progress.
We also felt that although the free play element of the game was appropriate for younger children the mini games were too difficult – some of the finding games were very challenging! Also, children would have had to read the interactions for the games – it would have been better if you could click on the instructions and have them read to you.
