What is it
Hippo Seasons allows children to explore the four seasons. They spin the hippo wheel (either with their fingers or by blowing in the microphone) and choose a season. Within the four seasons children can experience different types of activities which use simple commands (tapping, swiping…) Children can clear the leaves, plant seeds and watch flowers grow and throw snowballs.
Tested on an iPad

- Understanding of the different seasons
- Encourages Imagination and creativity
What our experts think
We liked the way children could explore the differences between the seasons; there is a lot of scope for discussion. Children have to use their fine motor skills in order to make things happen on the screen – different elements require different skills. Older children could be challenged to write letters and words on the screen.
The app allows children to use their imagination and creativity to create their own seasonal scenes.
It would be even better if...
We would have found the app easier to play if there were instructions at the start of each season. We kept having to go back into the parent area in order to remind ourselves what each season contained.
