What is it
Four Little Corners is a lovely interactive book that teaches children about friendship, equality and integrity. Through shape characters a story unfolds; simple, short phrases makes it ideal for emerging readers. You can read the whole story or focus on individual pages (using the square icon at the top of the screen.)
There are lots of opportunities for discussion; this is a good story for talking about characters’ feelings and actions and the effect they have on others.

What our experts think
We loved the content of the story – there were lots of opportunities for discussion and it would be a really good teaching tool for Key Stage 1. The children could put themselves in the position of the shapes and discuss what they would have done or how they would have felt. There are clear links with the PSHE taught in schools.
The story is read and displayed on the screen – children can follow what is being read, or the sound could be turned off and they could read it for themselves.
There are lots of opportunities for inferring meaning (a key reading skill) : ‘How was the square feeling? How do you know that?’
It would be even better if...
We would have liked to have seen key discussion points for parents – this is a very good tool for teaching values, but there needs to be adult input in order to further the children’s understanding of the story.
There are a few interactive points, but it is not overly clear where these are and what the children actually have to do. It would have been better if some of the interactive content developed the children’s colour and shape recognition by asking them to click on, for example, the purple circle.
