What is it

What our experts think
A great app to teach number recognition and counting – we’d even say it’s one of the best we’ve seen! The numbers are shown prominently in a number of places on each screen and tapping each animal to count them, showing and hearing each number as you count, is a simple yet effective way to teach children basic numeracy. The tally of eggs at the bottom of the screen is a nice additional touch to further encourage understanding of quantity not just learning to recite the numbers in sequence, and we like that you can jump to any number from the initial screen so aren’t forced to go in order. The additional animation after the animals are counted and interactivity on each screen makes the app fun and kept our little testers entertained while they were learning.
Children can play by themselves but some will benefit from having adult support to help count animals and recognise numbers. If they are getting good at knowing numbers in sequence keep taking them back to the menu screen and jumping into the numbers out of sequence – get them to tell you what number is shown before they start tapping!
If this app catches their attention, look for the numbers wherever they are shown around your home and ask them what they are – on toys, digital clocks etc. This will help to further cement in their knowledge of numbers.
