What is it
Enterprising Child is all about play and using fun and everyday offline activities to give children the skills to become resourceful, enterprising adults to benefit both their personal and working lives. The app is for parents to act as a resource. It’s full of activity ideas for parents to use both indoor and outdoor, at home or out and about. There are activities to make day-to-day experiences more beneficial and fun (like getting children thinking about the brands they see while they are out and about) and ideas for activities to do in your spare time (like their ‘Talking Art’ activity).
This app is the first in a series and focused on communication skills. Activities can be browsed by age: 4 – 6, 6 – 9, 9 – 11, 11 – 14 or by skill. The skills in this edition include:
- Responding to others
- Giving and following instructions
- Listening and questioning
- Speaking and listening
- Reading and writing
For example, you could send your child out with a limited budget to spend on items at a car boot sale, that they can try and resell for a profit! This gives them experience in work-related skills, such as speaking, listening and negotiating. You can even save your favourite activities to come back and try again later.
The app also offers optional push notifications to provide regular activity ideas to inspire busy parents.
Developed by professionals, these enjoyable and rewarding activities provide parents with a resource away from the screen to help support your child on their enterprising journey.

What our experts think
We love what Enterprising Child are all about – using play to help children become enterprising. For us this means giving children all the skills to not just function as an adult but to continually show initiative and resourcefulness in whatever they do. As you will see in the video above, our very own Dr. Amanda Gummer is delighted to lend her and Fundamentally Children’s endorsement to the programme.
This app is a fantastic resource – there is no doubt this deserves 5 stars for our skill development rating. All the parents who tested this app confirmed how beneficial the activities are for the children. It really is a gold mine of ideas – some you can pat yourselves on the back for already doing, some will inspire you to try things you do regularly in a different way and others you will no doubt never have thought of. There are certainly ideas in here the Fundamentally Children team will be trying for years to come with their children at home! It’s well worth taking the time to explore.
We love that you don’t have to go out and buy up your local craft store to do these either – the resources that are easy to get hold of, and many activities do not require any at all.
The concept of push notifications to inspire you on a regular basis to try something new also really appealed to some of parents (and is easy to turn off for those who aren’t so keen).
This is a handy, visually designed app with a professional feel providing a great resource for parents.
