What is it
The Abalone app is based on a board game. It is a marble strategy game where players have to decide the number of marbles to push. The aim is to line up more marbles than your opponent so that you can push them off the edge of the board!
The game requires concentration and strategy; you have to really think about the moves and how you can get your marbles in the correct position to push your opponents over the edge.
The app has the capability for players to play alone or with a friend (on the same screen.)

What our experts think
Abalone is a challenging strategy game which can be played by children and adults. We liked the fast that this could be a game played by parents and children (especially as there is a 2 player mode.)
The game is simple in concept, but not in practise; it requires logical thinking and really encourages players to use their problem solving strategies. In order to be successful you really need to concentrate!
It would be even better if...
We felt the tutorial was a little wordy and may be too difficult for younger players to understand; it would be better if this were simplified. We would also like to have seen the removal of the pop ups and restricted access to links we found when using this on a Kurio tablet (i.e. a parent gate.)
- No internet access required for core features
- Child Restrictions: No - all links unrestricted
