Favourite Classic Toys & Games – from the Fundamentally Children team

We all have that special toy that we remember from childhood and as Christmas is coming up the team have been thinking about our favourites, that we enjoyed as children as well as the ones we now enjoy with our own families.

Have we missed out your childhood favourite? Let us know in the comments!

Scrabble

Scrabble

“A great classic family game we now play with our children using Grandma’s original board with wooden racks and tiles, hoping that we can score on the red triple points and don’t end up with the dreaded letters Q and Z as our last picks from the bag.”

Playing Cards

“As a child I remember having hilarious times playing card games such as Donkey, Go Fish, Whist and many others with family and now repeating these with my own family and their grandma, sitting around the table and on holidays as well.”

Knex

“I could spend hours on end creating a number of constructs, but the introduction of a battery motor to the K’nex set took my creations to the next level as I could build my own rollercoaster!”

Oomar

Lego

“I remember having a huge green Lego crate as a child where I stored all the pieces from different sets. I loved creating different constructs at the same time and more often than not, the different constructs would merge together to make one (incredible) construct. Even at 24, I still love lego and I even have a Lego watch!”

“This is a great family game, we spend many hours working out the fastest routes to our targets and tactically blocking others!”

Cluedo

“Imagining the ghastly deeds committed by these interesting characters, the excitement of getting close to the solution and the tension of whether you were going to reveal all before your friends. There was no better game in my book.”

“I loved the strategy involved in this game and that is was possible to outfox my older brother – How cleverly can you hide your tug? – Can you survive once this has been discovered?”

“I loved this toy and spent hours creating a portfolio of fashion designs which I would then add fabric swatches to. My own children now love it just as much…and it has sparked some great conversations about the retro fashion on the wheel.”

Perudo

“We loved Perudo in our family – it came on many family holidays with us. The rules are nice and simple with a nice balance of luck and strategy, as well as good bluffing skills, to make it challenging and fun whilst easy to play with a wide range of ages.”

Sylvanian families

“These were my favourite toys for YEARS, I saved up every penny to buy my next family for months – my Grandmother even helped me make a school uniform for them all! I made up endless stories for every one I owned and enjoyed every minute. I’m dying to get them out of the attic when my daughter gets old enough.”
