Is it time to update your CV?

update-your-cvCongratulations to all parents – you’ve made it through the school summer holidays and you now have some free time!

What are you going to do with it?

Whether you work full time, you’re having a break from paid work, or you’re somewhere in the middle (like most of the Fundamentally Children Team – just call us juggling extraordinaires!), there are a lot of skills gained from parenting, especially during the long summer holidays, that you can take into the workplace.

Whatever stage of your career you’re at, it’s important to regularly update your CV so that if you spot the perfect job you can be ready, after a few changes to apply. These days that means updating your LinkedIn profile too. If you don’t have a LinkedIn profile, or it’s a long time since you updated it, here’s some advice from the Talented Ladies Club on how this networking tool could do a lot of the hard work for you.

What would be your top skills if you filled them in straight after the school holidays? Have you developed your teamworking, communication skills and photography technique this summer? Would your children endorse you for these attributes?

We think this mum has broadened her skill set considerably this summer, with crisis management, negotiating skills, multitasking, counselling and time management all featuring high on her list!

If you’re looking for flexible employment, check out 2to3days.com – an innovative job search website, which matches mothers’ skills to businesses’ needs, helping them to find part time work.

However you’re spending these first few days of the new term, we hope you enjoy them, and if you decide to do some job hunting, good luck!
