What is it

The Magformers My First 30 set contains various pieces in simple geometric shapes, like triangles, squares and rhomboids, which connect easily using the power of the built-in safe neodymium magnets. This set also contains an illustrated colour and shape-matching booklet covering fruit, animal and nature themes. With Magformers, every geometric piece has magnets safely sealed in every edge. But because the magnets rotate, two pieces always connect when they’re brought together.

What our team of testers said

What our experts think

Magformers My First 30 is a good construction set as well as a lovely hands-on way to teach pre-schoolers about shapes. We like the inclusion of the booklet that encourages children to match the shapes and count, which interested several of our testers (some just wanted to get on and build something!).

The Magformers My First 30 set is a bit trickier to use than other construction sets for the younger end of this  age group, so children are likely to need help to get started; however, this means that children have the opportunity to master a new skill and build their confidence. It also needs a certain amount of dexterity to join the pieces together, which helps to develop hand and finger strength and coordination. Children under 3 tend to struggle to do this unaided but children enjoy playing with the creations they make.
