Playing outdoors has obvious advantages not least the health benefit. But there is so much more. The physical development is vital for young, developing bodies and the freedom to explore their environment is immeasurable in terms of developmental stages. Children learn gross motor skills, balance, co-ordination, spatial awareness, teamwork, sharing and independence to name but a few of the skills, that being outside can promote. It broadens horizons and gives confidence whilst stretching their imagination. As a child gets older being outside with outdoor toys and games develops competition skills, both winning and losing, whilst continually improving physical well-being.
